Welcome to Elkhorn Elementary

The staff and I welcome you to Elkhorn Elementary, home of the tigers!  We warmly greet approximately 235 students from kindergarten to fifth grade each day. The students enter the building eager and ready to learn thanks to the support they receive from their parents.

Elkhorn Elementary embraces its mission: “Elkhorn Elementary students will develop academic and social skills to become independent, responsible learners as measured by state and national standards. The Elkhorn community will collaborate and provide resources to ensure our mission is accomplished.” We hold a strong commitment to excellence in academic achievement and high expectations for all students. In our quest to reach our goals and to develop a strong foundation for more advanced learning, We have implemented standards-based and researched based programs in math, reading, writing, and science.

We value caring, children-centered 21st century learning environments, opportunities to enhance the instruction, and standards-based progress reports. The cornerstones of Elkhorn are collaboration, Professional Learning Teams, the integration of technology and a partnership with the community. Students receive differentiated instruction through flexible skill groups while providing a rigorous K-5 core curriculum in math, reading, writing, science, social studies and in the fine arts of music, art, and physical education along with social emotional literacy.

At Elkhorn, we educate the whole child in a manner that emphasizes the love of learning. We view each child as an individual with a unique potential for success. We believe children learn best in a nurturing atmosphere where they feel respected, valued, and safe. Where each child is given high standards, clear expectations and are provided a structured environment that encourages creativity. Each child is given opportunities to make choices and help one another achieve their goals and to take responsibility for their own learning.

We are a Positive Behavior Support School, and safety, respect, and responsibility guide our students' actions and reinforce a caring community. Our school wide behavior expectations focus on students who demonstrate these characteristics. Students receive Tiger Tickets, Tiger Brags, and Student of the Month awards.

Elkhorn Elementary is fortunate to have a highly involved and very supportive parent group (SOS). This group annually raises thousands of dollars to support our students in all phases of the schooling process.

Elkhorn Elementary invites all of the community to stop by and observe all the great happenings that take place at school. You are also welcome to become an active volunteer. Please contact the school if you would be interested in supporting teaching and learning, helping out in our Library or the countless other activities that Elkhorn could use support with.

Sincerely,

Dr. Larry Nelson
Principal
