Elkhorn Fifth Grade Attends KC Symphony
Posted on 10/20/2016
Earlier this month, Fifth Grade students from Elkhorn attended a Kansas City Symphony concert at the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts. The symphony provides a series of educational concerts each year with different age groups in mind. Our students attended the Young People's Concert titled "Uncle Sam's Symphony". In this program they explored the Executive, Legislative, and Judicial branches of government with an exciting orchestral twist. Students learned about the structure of state and federal governments and compared them with the role that musicians play in the orchestra. The program featured a wide variety of music ranging from John Philip Sousa's "Stars and Stripes Forever", a piece written entirely for body percussion, songs featuring each family of the orchestra, and the crowd favorite "Scherzo for X-Wings" written for Star Wars by John Williams.
