Back to School
- Dr. Dave Lawrence Superintendent of Schools

The 2014-15 school year was another outstanding year for the Excelsior Springs School District. Our state test score results were above state average in twenty exams.

Some of the other achievements were the District of Distinction Award given to our school district by the District Administration national magazine for the Positive Behavior and Intervention Support program, the Golden Achievement Award from the National School Public Relations Association for the Pounce district newsletter, and all elementary and middle school buildings earning a Gold award for Positive Behavior Supports. The high school earned a PBS Silver award which is as high of an award as any high school earned in the state.

The year before (2013-14) was also a successful year for the Excelsior Springs School District.  Our District was the only school district in Missouri recognized with the Dr. Mary Richter District of Distinction Award at the Positive Behavior Support Annual Conference. Each building also received a Gold or Silver Award at that conference. Our high school was named as a Top 40 College Prep Missouri High School by the US News and World Report magazine,  one of only five high schools in Clay County to receive this honor.

Two years of outstanding recognitions makes everyone look forward to this year. The One-to-World initiative, which will put iPads in the hands of all certified staff members and students in grades 4th-10th,will be an avenue to transform learning in and out of the classroom. Northland CAPS will begin for the high school in an effort to connect our students to the business world by immersing them in professional environments via internships. Business partners are still needed and the course strands are engineering/advanced manufacturing, global business/entrepreneurship, medicine/healthcare, technology solutions, and global logistics/transportation. Please let me know if your business would be interested in partnering with CAPS.

I know our talented staff and hardworking students will once again have a successful year.

We need your help in sharing the good things happening in our school district because our students deserve to have a proud community that supports them and their future.

With students returning to school, please watch for children walking to school and waiting at bus stops. I know we all want the children of our community safe at all times.
